Data Protection Authority drops Netcompany probe
The Danish Data Protection Authority will not further investigate IT company Netcompany regarding a data theft incident at present. This decision comes following a review of Netcompany’s responses to inquiries made concerning compliance with data protection regulations after the February theft incident. The theft involved source code and simple manuals for Netcompany tools, specifics yet to be disclosed. The authority’s decision is based solely on aspects within its remission, primarily involving the handling of personal data. Ongoing criminal proceedings prevent disclosure of Netcompany’s replies that led to the case being closed. A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case, charged with unauthorized access but denies any attempt at extortion, despite this being among the charges. The Data Protection Authority is also in contact with the Danish Business Authority and the Danish Agency for Digitisation regarding reported breaches of personal data security.
