Minister criticizes proposal to cut aid funding
Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, Dan Jørgensen, criticizes the Danish People’s Party’s proposal to cut development aid, warning it could lead to more migration and strengthen terrorists’ recruitment efforts. He emphasizes that cutting aid could benefit groups like al-Shabaab by creating instability in impoverished regions. Jørgensen defends Denmark’s contribution of 0.7% of its GNI to aid, deeming it generous and reasonable and insists on supporting countries in dire need, such as war-torn Ukraine. The proposed aid cuts would not align with the UN’s development assistance goals and could harm Denmark’s international reputation, he notes. Instead of development aid, the Danish People’s Party plans to allocate funds for emergency assistance and improvements to domestic welfare.
