Danes approve King’s New Year speech
A new Voxmeter survey shows that the majority of Danes appreciated King Frederik’s first New Year’s speech, with almost eight out of ten respondents expressing a positive view. Specifically, 42.7% found the speech ‘very good’ and 36.1% ‘good’. Only a small fraction responded negatively, while 4.1% did not watch it. Historian Lars Hovbakke Sørensen, with expertise in the royal house, believes the speech contained everything it should and was well-delivered. The speech included topics like God, unrest in Ukraine and the Middle East, climate change, and the wellbeing of Danish youth, with no major surprises. According to Sørensen, this debut followed tradition and met expectations despite King Frederik being less known for oratory skills. Queen Margrethe abdicated in January last year, and King Frederik expressed gratitude for the support received. Sørensen notes the general backing for the new royal couple, mentioning their visibility post-succession with state visits and tours.
