Nammo to produce ammo in Denmark after long process

Norwegian company Nammo is expected to start the production of grenades and ammunition in the previously state-owned and recently repurchased factory ‘Krudten’ in Elling, North Jutland. The repurchase in September 2023, at a cost of 19.6 million kroner, follows Russia’s war against Ukraine and aims to secure supply security amid a widespread artillery shortage in Europe. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen anticipates production by summer 2007. The decision reflects a political consensus to give the Defense more authority for purchases, bypassing tenders in conflicts involving European countries. Despite Nammo planning to import parts, Poulsen insists it will bolster supply security. The state has committed to purchasing about 5,000 grenades yearly from the factory, a figure criticized as insufficient considering Russia’s heavy daily use during certain war periods. A new 50 billion kroner fund will finance the procurement of both small and large-caliber ammunition for the Defense.
