Danish FM rethinks Taiwan’s registration status
Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Danish Foreign Minister, suggests altering the protocol that designates Taiwanese in Denmark as Chinese. Prompted by media scrutiny, he is assessing Denmark’s practice and comparing it with other nations, considering a resolution compatible with the one-China policy. Previously, Taiwanese were sometimes registered with Taiwan as their origin, but the policy tightened at the year’s turn, mandating China as their homeland. Denmark does not recognize Taiwan as an independent entity, seeing it as part of China. The debate on how Denmark regards Taiwan intensified following a contentious visit to Taiwan by former Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen, now head of the Alliance of Democracies. The Chinese embassy has restated that Taiwan is an integral part of China, with the one-China policy reaffirmed by Denmark.
