Lufthansa strike expected to affect 100,000 passengers

Verdi union has called a strike involving 25,000 Lufthansa ground staff across several German airports, expected to impact over 100,000 passengers. The 27-hour strike will disrupt services in Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Cologne, and Stuttgart, from early Tuesday until Wednesday morning, with around 900 flights canceled. Danish passengers will notably face a lack of flights to and from Frankfurt during the strike. The dispute stems from demands for a 12.5% pay raise and an inflation bonus, with negotiations at a standstill. Lufthansa’s 10% raise offer was overwhelmingly rejected by employees due to insufficient inflation compensation. HR Chief Michael Niggemann criticizes the strike for undermining collective responsibility, while ground staff feel undervalued compared to pilots. Next negotiations are slated for February 21.
