US aid freeze costs Save the Children 2300 jobs

Save the Children expects to lay off about 2300 employees globally due to a pause in foreign aid by the US government, impacting an estimated 8 to 12 million people receiving support. The organization expressed shock at the US decision to terminate nearly all aid contracts, fearing loss of access to food, water, medicine, hospital closures, and essential equipment failures. More than 40 countries across various regions are affected. Following his inauguration, President Trump signed an executive order freezing US foreign aid contributions through USAID for 90 days to align with his foreign policy. The White House has accused USAID programs of wasting money. USAID funds constitute a quarter of Save the Children’s global budget, prompting the organization to make cutbacks and seek alternative funding sources.
