Today’s news / Danish MPs on global committee trips
Originally, week 10 was meeting-free because sessions were held in the Nordic Council during the week. But it has been many years since this happened. Instead, the week is used partly for committee trips. (Archive photo). Photo: Ida Marie Odgaard/Ritzau Scanpix

Danish MPs on global committee trips

Danish Parliament members are dispersed across various countries this week. Scheduled visits span continents including Australia, the USA, Japan, Africa, and Brazil. Week 10, traditionally meeting-free due to Nordic Council sessions, now facilitates committee travels. With no activities in Christiansborg, MPs utilize this time for international orientation within their respective fields, backed by a 3.66 million DKK budget. Committees undertake specific missions: The Education and Research Committee explores green technologies in India, while the Social Committee assesses Australia’s national disability strategy. Critics like Peder Hvelplund of Enhedslisten find the legislature’s recess for travel old-fashioned and misaligned with the upcoming legislative workload.
