Two million may lose aid due to Trump’s assistance freeze

Following President Trump’s decision, over two million people are at risk of losing humanitarian aid provided by the Danish Refugee Council (Dansk Flygtningehjælp). The American development agency USAID has been instructed to suspend humanitarian support. This cessation has immediate and serious consequences that are expected to have long-lasting negative implications, according to the organization’s press release. As the Danish Refugee Council’s second-largest donor, the US contributes 20% to their budget for 2025. The suspension affects projects aiding displaced individuals in crisis-stricken areas such as Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen, and Ukraine. Activities have halted, and up to 2000 employees could be impacted. Alternative funding sources are being explored. Businessman Elon Musk, appointed by Trump to find federal cost savings, suggested that USAID might be completely shut down.
