Crackdown on illegal work nets half billion DKK
Last year, the Danish Tax Authority issued taxation notices amounting to around 507 million Danish kroner due to discovered errors and fraud at workplaces. According to the Ministry of Taxation’s press release, more than 3,300 checks were conducted in 2023 in collaboration with the police and the Danish Working Environment Authority, focusing on companies with foreign workers. Errors or fraud in tax or VAT registrations were found in over 1,900 cases. The record-breaking result is a 60% increase from 2022. Tax Minister Jeppe Bruus emphasized that the work in Denmark must comply with Danish legislation and the rules of the Danish labor market, highlighting the significant impact of the crackdown on social dumping. The efforts are particularly targeted at high-risk sectors like construction. The government aims to continue a strong and persistent effort against social dumping, with political consensus recently achieved to address issues within the construction industry.
