Aarhus bans tobacco and snus for employees

Aarhus Municipality has decided to prohibit its employees from using nicotine pouches during work hours. The ban, which was passed by a large majority of the city council, also includes all nicotine products. Effective from May 1st, the rule will apply to all 28,000 municipal employees. The proposal, backed by Venstre, The Conservative People’s Party, Green Left, and the Social Liberal Party, reflects Aarhus’s commitment to not associating tobacco and nicotine with its workplace culture, states Health Councilor Christian Budde. Debates in the city council meeting emphasized that adults should be role models for the youth. Council member Henrik Arens disagreed, suggesting trust in employees’ choices while Mathilde Hjort Bressum from Venstre pointed out nicotine’s status as an intoxicant.
