Beware of unknown energy providers
Green Power Denmark warns electricity customers against unscrupulous energy companies that can switch consumers to their services without consent, using just an address and the consumer’s personal identification number. The organization advises customers to pay attention if they receive an electricity bill from a new company and to contact their previous supplier for assistance in switching back. The misdeed often involves smaller companies operated by individuals who deceive customers with claims such as having acquired the consumer’s current company. These involuntary transfers can lead to unexpected fees and charges. Green Power Denmark encourages customers to complain to the Consumer Ombudsman if subjected to this illegal practice. The Minister for Climate, Energy, and Utilities is working with stakeholders to introduce regulations to make it harder to establish new energy companies and to enhance consumer protection, including stricter company behavior and tougher penalties for offenders.
