Denmark sells 24 fighter jets to Argentina

Denmark’s Defense Minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, has agreed to sell 24 F-16 fighter jets to Argentina for approximately 2.1 billion, the exact amount being not yet finalized. The deal is an initial declaration of intent signed with his Argentine colleague, Luis Alfonso Petri, to be followed by a final contract in Denmark. The sale is possible thanks to permission from the USA, who has been involved in the sales process. Denmark has previously donated 19 of its F-16 fleet to Ukraine but not the aircraft involved in this sale. Poulsen noted the Danish defense is transitioning to F-35 jets and expressed satisfaction with the sale’s progress. He also mentioned that sale proceeds would support the defense sector, investing in capabilities and future updates, rather than plugging previous budget gaps. The role of the US in facilitating the deal reflects its strategic interest in limiting China’s influence in South America.
