Left proposes EU cyber brigade against Russian trolls
The political party Venstre suggests the creation of a dedicated cyber brigade as a response to the growing threat of hybrid attacks targeting Denmark and Europe. The Venstre chairman and Defense Minister, Troels Lund Poulsen, emphasizes the need for a stronger and different preparedness in combating threats not only from foreign powers but possibly also terrorist organizations. The proposed cyber unit would be voluntary for EU member states, with Denmark contributing specialists from its Center for Cyber Security and cyber conscripted youths. The threat from Russian hybrid warfare in Denmark has intensified, according to the country’s intelligence services, even as the Minister assures of stable elections in June. The initiative aims to reinforce EU defenses, including a response force at EU borders, and although it won’t take a proactive approach like its Russian counterpart, it will operate as a permanent structure ready to respond to significant cyberattacks.
