Martin Henriksen Becomes Leader of Nye Borgerlige

Martin Henriksen, previously a member of the party Dansk Folkeparti, was elected chairman of the the party Nye Borgerlige on Tuesday evening at an extraordinary annual meeting. This decision came roughly 90 minutes after Nye Borgerlige members voted to continue the party’s existence. Henriksen, a recent member since June 2023 and briefly the top candidate for Nye Borgerlige in the European Parliament elections, has pledged to maintain the party’s strict immigration policy and conservative economic stance, while challenging the Danish elite and advocating for a system-critical party that addresses the perceived disconnect between politicians and society. Winning with 169 out of 184 delegate votes against Daniel Fischer, he aims to revive the party, which has lost most of its parliament seats. Henriksen emphasizes the importance of his non-traditional background, including his current job as a security guard, in understanding systems both from within and outside politics.
