Mette F. discusses rebuilding Gaza
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen spoke with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi about the necessity of rebuilding Gaza without displacing Palestinians. The conversation occurred after U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that the USA should take over Gaza’s reconstruction and relocate its Palestinian population to other regional countries. The Egyptian presidential office notes the importance of rebuilding without displacing residents but did not clarify who initiated the discussion. Denmark and Egypt discussed mutual relations and aspects of strategic cooperation, covering migration, trade, and green transitions. During a visit to Denmark, al-Sisi signed a strategic cooperation agreement and received Denmark’s highest honor, the Order of the Elephant. The state visit was criticized by Amnesty International for honoring a president with an authoritarian rule and limited political dissent. Frederiksen later said human rights were discussed, including women’s status.
