Justice Minister Refuses Royal Badge

Danish justice minister Peter Hummelgaard declined a commander’s cross, stating a lack of need for honors based on his role when ordinary people are unrecognized for societal contributions. He told this to the Danish paper Politiken. This follows a historic Social Democrat policy against royal honors due to a past monarchy dispute. Now, the acceptance of honors is left to individual party members. Prime minister Mette Frederiksen was the first in her party to receive an order post-policy change. Some party ministers have accepted honors, though others are expected to refuse.
