Conservatives unveil major climate plan
The Conservative Party in Denmark proposes a climate mitigation plan, allocating DKK 10.2 billion by 2030 to combat climate change. Referencing recent catastrophic flooding in Valencia, party leader Mona Juul warns against inaction due to the high costs of damages and prevention measures. She highlights past floods that impacted Danes, noting that future flood damage could cost Denmark DKK 43 billion annually without adaptive urban planning. The plan suggests doubling the coastal defense fund and reserving 800 million kroner yearly for the protection of properties at risk of being uninhabitable. The Conservatives also intend to lift the municipal spending cap for climate investments, underscoring the gravity of the situation. The funding will be sourced from the state’s net assets, regarding climate protection as an essential one-time investment for the future.
