Minister eyes yard servicing navy and Russian fleet
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen seeks an inquiry into the Fayard shipyard’s servicing of both the Danish Navy and Russian ‘shadow fleet’ vessels. The latter supports Russia’s war efforts and evades sanctions with opaque ownership. Fayard has maintained Russian gas carriers amid the three-year-long conflict with Ukraine. Daily, obsolete ships sail through Danish waters with valuable oil cargoes. Poulsen has not stated any specific security concerns but stresses the importance of securing Denmark’s naval service locations. In response to media scrutiny, the FMI will re-examine the issue despite previously stating no laws were violated. While Prime Minister Frederiksen has openly criticized the practice, Poulsen refrains from shaming businesses, noting the activities are not sanctionable.
