C25 index sees largest drop in two years

The Danish C25 index closed Monday with a 3.6 percent decline, marking the most significant single-day drop since September 2022. At that time, concerns over inflation and interest rate increases impacted Danish and international markets. The recent decline follows a prior fall of 2.5 percent on Friday. The C25 had risen over 10 percent this year until August, nearing record levels, but those gains have been largely erased with a year-to-date increase now around three percent. ISS fared best with a 0.4 percent drop, while Mærsk shares fell less than one percent. Genmab was among the worst performers after announcing a deal with Biontech, ending Monday down 7.4 percent. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index suffered over a 12 percent loss, reminiscent of the 1987 ‘black monday’, which strengthened the yen but hurt Japanese exporters. Additionally, recently released key US economic indicators, including lower-than-expected job creation numbers, have heightened global economic concerns.
