Denmark pledges 40% aid boost for global fund

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced at the UN General Assembly in New York that Denmark will increase its contribution to the International Development Association (IDA) by 40 percent. The IDA is part of the World Bank and provides concessionary loans to the world’s poorest countries. The increase represents a Danish support commitment of 3.3 billion kroner. Frederiksen underscored Denmark’s resolve to achieve the development goals of the Paris Agreement, an international treaty to combat climate change. She took pride in responding to African partners’ calls for increased support. World Bank’s Ajay Banga acknowledged that the raised Danish contribution would significantly impact people’s lives. Additionally, Frederiksen addressed Denmark’s upcoming membership in the UN Security Council, viewing it as a substantial responsibility and expressing eagerness for constructive collaboration.
