State hackers raise cyber espionage threat in telecom

The Danish telecom sector is now likely to face attempts at cyber espionage as the Danish Authority for Community Safety (Samsik), formerly Centre for Cybersecurity, has increased the threat level from medium to high. Cyber espionage, where hackers infiltrate and secretly extract information from systems, has seen increased attempts in the European telecom sector in recent years. Samsik highlights the heightened interest from state hackers, particularly from China, Russia, and Iran. The authority’s evaluation points out the severe consequences for society when telecom services are disrupted, as seen last November when TDC Net’s mobile network was down. The Danish Minister for Community Safety and Preparedness urges heightened cybersecurity focus in light of recent assessments and Russia’s growing aggression in using cyberattacks.
