Minister to amend adoptees’ rights law
Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen has announced plans to change a 2018 law that unfairly affects the rights of adoptees to certain welfare benefits, including a work requirement provision that caused outrage among adoptees and their families. The law, set to come into effect this summer, equates the work obligation of adoptees with that of immigrants. Specifically, this impacts those adopted into Denmark after 1968. Halsboe-Jørgensen stresses that it was never the intention for adoptees to feel uncertain about their place in Danish society. Following sharp criticism from associations and social media under the hashtag #ErJegStadigDansk, The Moderates intends to propose legislation ensuring that adoptees are never again equated with immigrants and foreigners.
