Syrian man sentenced for German highway murder

A 36-year-old Syrian refugee, Samer Maray, has been sentenced to life by a German court for murdering his wife on the A7 motorway. They lived in Denmark and were en route from Aarhus to Berlin when he stabbed her over 20 times in 2021. After the stabbing, she was hit by a truck while escaping onto the road and died. The extensive trial consisted of 70 sessions over two years. Life imprisonment in Germany allows for parole consideration after 15 years if the individual is no longer a threat. Prosecutors deemed the act an honor killing, speculating divorce as a motive.
