Copenhagen Municipality supports Pride with 1M+ DKK

Copenhagen Pride will receive 1.25 million DKK from Copenhagen Municipality over the next three years according to the local culture and leisure administration. This decision occurs amidst the withdrawal of sponsors like Netto, Ørsted, Dansk Industri, Mærsk, and Novo Nordisk, following a controversial request from Copenhagen Pride’s former chairperson, Lars Henriksen, concerning the Gaza conflict. Niels Peder Ravn from the Conservative People’s Party emphasizes the importance of supporting individuals’ rights to live their desired lives. He acknowledges the concerns of sponsors but believes Pride should celebrate identity rather than conduct foreign policy. The municipality has engaged in dialogue with Copenhagen Pride’s leadership to help address past mistakes. Besides Pride, 39 festivals in Copenhagen, including Distortion and Copenhagen Stage, will receive a share of the 48 million DKK allocated for festival support between 2025-2027.
