Mona Juul May Be Elected Conservative Leader on April 21

The Conservatives will hold an extraordinary council on April 21 in Herning where Mona Juul is expected to be elected as the new chair. Acting chair Michael Ziegler announced this after a board meeting on Sunday, following the death of Søren Pape Poulsen from a brain hemorrhage on March 2. Currently, there are no opposing candidates, but members can declare candidacy up to the day. Juul, already the political leader, enjoys massive support from the party’s executive committee and board. Although Pape held both chair and political leader positions, these can be separate roles. The Conservatives could have waited for a regular council later in the year, but Ziegler desires a swift transition. The upcoming council will also pay homage to Pape and discuss the June 9 EU Parliament election.
