Novo joins alliance for greener flight emissions

Novo Nordisk, along with 23 multinational companies including Google, Microsoft, and Meta, has become part of the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance (Saba) to secure more eco-friendly fuel for air transport of goods and personnel. These companies have pledged to purchase SAF credits equivalent to nearly 190 million liters of aviation fuel. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), often made from biomass, can emit up to 80% less CO2 than conventional fuels. Novo Nordisk is committed to reducing CO2 emissions, which involves prioritizing when to fly employees or opt for calls or videoconferencing, and shipping medicines by sea when possible. Current SAF usage only accounts for approximately 0.5% of the total aviation fuel market due to limited available biomass. Future technologies like Power-to-X could potentially scale up the supply by converting green energy and CO2 into CO2-neutral aviation fuel.
