Tesla fined for flawed car and loan marketing
The Danish division of electric car manufacturer Tesla has agreed to pay a fine of 190,000 kroner for misleading marketing. In 2019, Tesla failed to include registration tax, document, and delivery fees in the prices for two of its models and did not provide a proper calculation example in its financing offers. Consumer Ombudsman Torben Jensen emphasized the importance of consumers receiving all relevant information when making significant decisions like purchasing a car or taking a loan. Had the same offense occurred today, the fine would have been significantly higher due to stricter rules introduced in 2022, which consider the company’s turnover size. In 2019, Tesla Motors Denmark had a turnover of nearly 1.2 billion kroner, with the current fine level ranging between 500,000 and 10.2 million kroner.
