Danske Bank reopens for nuclear arms investment
After nearly eleven years, Danske Bank will now allow investments in companies involved in the production of nuclear weapons. This move was influenced by recent geopolitical developments, including increased threats from countries like Russia. The bank will invest in firms that produce components for nuclear weapons for countries that are signatories of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Currently, only India, Israel, and Pakistan are not signatories, with North Korea having withdrawn in 2003. Nordea, a competitor, continues to exclude companies involved in nuclear weapons production, citing negative implications for investors and society. Danske Bank had stopped profiting from the production of nuclear weapons in 2014, considering the catastrophic consequences and violations of human rights and war laws.
