Russia and Ukraine exchange 190 prisoners of war
Russia and Ukraine have exchanged a total of 190 prisoners of war, with each country sending 95 prisoners back to the other. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj reported the exchange, which included members from the Russian army, the national guard, and border police, captured in 2022. Since the war began in 2022, 3,400 soldiers and civilians have been returned to Ukraine. The United Arab Emirates mediated this prisoner swap. Prior exchanges have occurred without direct contact between the two countries; however, direct contact was established in this latest exchange, with Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatjana Moskalkova and her Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Lubinets, present at the event.
