Relocation to Skåne rises again

Last year saw an increase in the number of people moving from Denmark to Skåne, Sweden, with 1,642 individuals making the transition across the Øresund Bridge. This 18% rise compared to 2022 marks the first consecutive annual increase since 2007. Tore Stramer, Chief Economist at Danish Chamber of Commerce, suggests this growth could partially be attributed to the pause in relocation plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the relatively high cost of housing in Copenhagen and Eastern Denmark likely fueled the migration to Skåne. The trend of moving from Denmark to Sweden had also spiked from the turn of the millennium until 2007, coinciding with a peak in Danish housing prices, before declining to an oscillation around 1,400 people per year.
