Wealthy fisherman Henning Kjeldsen’s comeback

Henning Kjeldsen, known as the country’s richest fisherman, seemed to retire following a case on quota fraud. However, he seems to be returning to the sea with the purchase of a 63-meter-long ship, as shown on his Facebook posts. Kjeldsen, who was fined 54 million kroner at the end of 2021 for extensive quota fraud, wouldn’t disclose the purpose of the new vessel to Finans, but authorities have tied 12.6 tons of fishing quotas to the ship. He had been accused of circumventing quota systems using strawman tactics, with loans for companies to acquire quotas and the right to repurchase them at undervalued prices. Despite being initially found guilty, he was later acquitted in appellate court. He and other fishermen now seek compensation for the millions spent on the case, with a verdict expected on Friday.
