Russian ships circle in Kattegat for over a day
Two Russian ships have been circling for at least a day in the Kattegat sea area, situated between the eastern coast of Jutland and Sweden, according to Swedish media TV4. The Swedish Coast Guard has alerted Danish authorities. The ships, identified as ‘Sergey Balk’ and ‘SB-123’, were detected east of Djursland and south of Anholt. Additionally, two other Russian ships, ‘Belomorye’ and ‘Vengery’, were spotted off the coast near Sjællands Odde. While it’s not illegal for Russian ships to navigate Danish waters, Danish and Swedish authorities have increased their surveillance of maritime traffic, especially after a Chinese ship, ‘Yi Peng 3’, was anchored for weeks in Kattegat last year. Before anchoring, it had passed near data cables in the Baltic Sea which were later found to be damaged. The increased attention is due to these types of incidents.
