EU Backs Denmark in Greenland dispute

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated that the EU supports Denmark in the dispute over Greenland following U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments. He emphasized that the European stance is clear on not changing borders and that any dialogue with the U.S. administration, hoped to be constructive, should acknowledge the heightened security concerns in the Arctic. Denmark is bolstering its defense in the region, and, along with Greenland, is open to discussing increased U.S. presence. Rasmussen expressed confidence that the Kingdom of Denmark would remain intact and noted Greenland’s desire for greater independence without affecting the unity of the Kingdom.
