Over 120 electric bike chargers coming to municipalities
Twenty-four municipalities in Denmark have been approved for EU support to provide publicly accessible electric bike charging. This initiative is part of the ‘Green Transition of Road Transport’ agreement from 2020, which allocated 12.2 million DKK for the cause. The funding enables the construction of sheds and small boxes where people can charge and securely store their e-bike batteries. Marianne Foldberg Steffesen from the Danish Road Directorate noted a high interest in applying for grants, particularly outside larger cities, where e-bikes have significant potential. She believes that investments in charging and secure bicycle parking make e-bikes a more attractive option, especially for longer commutes that might be challenging with conventional bikes. Grants were assigned on a first-come-first-served basis to municipalities including Assens, Ballerup, and Esbjerg among others.
