LA calls for transparency on NATO goals

The Danish Defense Minister, Troels Lund Poulsen (V), states that NATO has accepted Denmark’s calculation showing it will meet the goal of spending at least two percent of its GDP on defense by 2024. However, the government is not disclosing the details of the calculation, including Ukraine aid’s share. Liberal Alliance’s defense spokesperson, Carsten Bach, is calling for openness regarding the expenditure distribution, especially the amount allocated to Ukraine support. While some NATO countries previously criticized including Ukraine aid in the defense spending calculation, Denmark insists that NATO accepts it. Ritzau has sought more detailed information from the Defense Ministry, which reiterated only the known figure of 2.02 percent of GDP for defense in 2024 without further details. Bach emphasizes the public’s right to a transparent political debate on spending, as taxpayers ultimately fund defense expenditures.
