Minister on EU presidency: Europe must be a global power

In less than two weeks, Denmark will take over the EU presidency at a crucial time. On Thursday, Denmark launched its EU presidency priorities: “Secure Europe” and “Competitive and Green Europe” for the next six months. Europe must become a global power, hence a stronger Europe in a world of change is needed, stated European Affairs Minister Marie Bjerre. Denmark will focus on defense, competitiveness, irregular migration, and the green transition. Starting July 1, Denmark takes over from Poland. The presidency marks Denmark’s biggest foreign policy task of the decade, with challenges including competitiveness, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, climate goals, and migration. Denmark aims to finalize EU’s 2040 climate goals and open accession talks with potential member states like Ukraine, Moldova, Albania, and Montenegro. The presidency includes extensive meeting activities in Denmark.
