On Monday, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said the U.S. will continue to provide military assistance to Israel, as per an agreement signed last month that committed the Americans to this. However, the White House has put a pause on weapons deliveries of bombs because "we don't want them to be used in densely populated areas." Photo: Susan Walsh/Ritzau Scanpix

Congress weighs $1B arms delivery to Israel

The U.S. Congress is considering a $1 billion arms package for Israel including tactical vehicles and tank ammunition. The proposal comes after President Joe Biden delayed an arms shipment and warned of halting further deliveries if Israel fully invaded Rafah in Gaza. The White House has paused bomb deliveries aimed at populated areas. This move follows escalating conflicts since October 7, when Hamas attacked Israeli regions, killing 1,200 and taking 252 hostages, with 133 people still captive. In response, 35,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Gaza’s health authorities.
