Danish road directorate rejects Chinese cameras
The Danish Road Directorate will replace surveillance cameras, including those made by the Chinese company Hikvision, due to cybersecurity concerns. This comes after a purchase of over 170 Hikvision cameras in late 2022, which cost around five million kroner and spurred criticism. Intelligence services and human rights advocates have warned against the company, and the USA has banned equipment from Hikvision citing a security risk. Aalborg University professor Jens Myrup Pedersen emphasized the urgency for Danish authorities to recognize possible security flaws in Chinese cameras, including potential backdoors for Chinese government access. This concern is linked to a Chinese security law that requires citizens and companies to surrender data to the state upon request.
