Greenland reiterates: not for sale

The Greenlandic government’s website featured a statement declaring that Greenland is not for sale and remains the property of the Greenlandic people, with no change expected in the future. This announcement came amidst increased attention from the United States. President-elect Donald Trump has expressed a strong desire to acquire Greenland, citing its critical importance to U.S. national security. In response, Greenland’s premier Múte B. Egede has repeatedly affirmed Greenland’s sovereignty. The reason for reiterating the message is unclear. Alongside this, there have been reports of American individuals distributing dollars and hats in Nuuk. Premier Egede has conveyed Greenland’s readiness for further collaboration with the U.S., particularly in mining, and has mentioned starting dialogues for future cooperation.
