Denmark’s new Israeli arms vulnerable to jamming
Controversial Israeli-made weapon systems supplied to Denmark might be ineffective in modern conflict, similar to the ongoing one in Ukraine. According to DR News and Jyllands-Posten, these systems use civilian GPS which are susceptible to enemy electronic disruptions, known as ‘jamming’ or ‘spoofing.’ Such interferences could lead to inaccuracy of the weapons on a modern battlefield. Examples from the war in Ukraine indicate the prevalence of electronic warfare, particularly by Russia, which can mislead vulnerable GPS systems. Military GPS systems are suggested to replace the civilian ones for proper functionality. The Danish Defense has received Atmos howitzers and Puls rocket launchers, which are not equipped with military-grade GPS. Although Danish Artillery Regiment Chief Michael A. Villumsen acknowledges the vulnerability to jamming, he suggests that weapons can still be used without GPS-guided ammunition. Critiques from political leaders Martin Lidegaard (R) and Carsten Bach (LA) highlight concerns over the rushed and potentially misguided procurement process.
