Commission calls for clothing ban in schools

A comission in favour of women’s rights recommends expanding the coverage ban that already exists in public places to include educational institutions. It is one of 13 suggestions presented to combat honor-related social control. Since 2018, there has been a ban in Denmark on wearing clothing that hides the face in public unless there is a legitimate purpose. The commission acknowledges some challenges regarding clothing at educational institutions and urges the government to investigate further. They also recommend a ban on cousin marriages, which the government is prepared to implement. The commission, established in January 2022 and previously suggesting to ban headscarves in primary schools, which met resistance, has now resumed with new members after a period of inactivity.
