Denmark to dissolve military internal audit
The Danish Ministry of Defence is set to abolish its internal audit (FIR) as it prepares to spend billions on materials and staffing amid broader European defense escalation. This decision comes in efforts to cut 1000 work positions across the state sector. Instead of reporting to the department chief, oversight will now fall within the Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO). A new office for supervision and audit is to be created in the department. Experts criticize the move: Professor Peter Skærbæk calls it a weakening of control, hazardous during an era of significant investment. Rolf Elm-Larsen with 37 years of audit experience, believes this lacks prudence especially with forthcoming billion kroner military purchases. Historically, the Ministry faced recurring criticism for procurement issues and accounting weaknesses. No comment from the Defence Minister was acquired before the publication deadline.
