Danish Oscar nod shocks director

Swedish director Magnus von Horn expresses amazement at the Oscar nomination for Best International Film for ‘Pigen med nålen’ (‘The Girl with the Needle’), which he directed. Despite doubting they would get the nomination, he acknowledges the film’s worthiness and the tumultuous nature of the selection process. The nomination is incredibly meaningful to him, opening doors for future projects and his passion for filmmaking. Set in Copenhagen during WWI, the film follows a young factory worker, Karoline, and the underground adoption agency she encounters. Von Horn, a Swedish resident in Poland, believes his outside perspective makes the Danish-produced film more accessible internationally. ‘Pigen med nålen’ is set for release in Danish cinemas.
