Tax Minister Concedes Excess Property Valuation Errors
Danish Tax Minister Jeppe Bruus has to Berlingske acknowledged the presence of too many errors in the property valuations made available to homeowners in September, causing widespread uncertainty and questioning. Despite being aware of the challenge involved in overhauling the property tax system and implementing a new valuation system since he took office in February 2022, the extent of errors and unexpected issues surprised him. About 100,000 initial valuations needed corrections in the fall, with Bruus projecting a fully operational system only by 2026 or 2027. He especially regrets the oversight of about 68,000 cases where land was valued higher than the overall value of the property on it, which undermined the credibility of the valuations. The evaluation system has been controversial since a 2007 internal review exposed its poor quality.
