Panel recommends a state-funded media ombudsman

A state-funded media ombudsman should be established, according to the media responsibility committee led by former Venstre minister Søren Pind, who expressed satisfaction with the unanimous support for the numerous recommendations. The ombudsman, envisioned as an independent public authority, would have the capability to prosecute cases of peace and defamation violations in the mass media. Pind hopes the recommendations lead to justice for individuals unfairly treated in the media, particularly on digital platforms. Despite JP/Politikens Hus’ CEO Stig Ørskov’s dissent, Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt acknowledged the committee’s proposals, intending to review and discuss them with political parties later in the year.
