PM to discuss weapon purchase and misinformation
The Danish Parliament’s Examination Committee has decided to summon prime minister Mette Frederiksen to discuss her role in the controversial purchase of weapons from the Israeli company Elbit, amid allegations of the parliament being misinformed. Defense minister Troels Lund Poulsen and finance minister Nicolai Wammen will also be called in. The committee is looking to uncover whether the prime minister had discussions with Israeli officials prior to the acquisition. A leaked email thread indicates that Frederiksen had a conversation with a high-ranking foreign individual about new artillery just days before the purchase. The issue originated when the parliament had one day to approve the purchase of 19 artillery systems and eight rocket launchers, which later sparked criticism due to misinformation suggesting urgency that wasn’t necessary. The opposition seeks further investigation into the case.
