EU politicians seek royal danish honors

Danish EU Parliament members Christel Schaldemose and Morten Løkkegaard are urging King Frederik to award them with royal orders, similar to domestic Folketing members reports Politiken. These politicians are not currently eligible for Dannebrogordenen, traditionally granted after 10 years of service, a condition met by Schaldemose since 2006 and Løkkegaard since 2009. They argue this represents a lack of equality. Their appeal comes after Frederik’s ascension to the throne on January 14 and a historic shift in the Social Democrats’ stance on accepting royal honors, now leaving the decision to individuals, as stated by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in January. The royal house has not responded to the inquiry from the EU parliamentarians regarding this issue.
