Suspect detained for 2012 bar homicide
A man was remanded in Copenhagen for a nearly 12-year-old bar murder after admitting to the crime. The Copenhagen City Court cited strong suspicion and risk of flight as reasons. The 39-year-old Omar Sheik Muse was previously convicted and served time for the murder in Somaliland, a verdict not recognized by Denmark, which also entails a non-enforceable compensation to the victim’s family with camels. The victim, Jonas Thomsen Sekyere, was stabbed in the heart at Bakken nightclub. Despite the double jeopardy principle, Denmark may pursue a new case based on differing legal standards. Muse contacted Danish authorities from Ethiopia, leading to his capture.
