Minister proposes quality boost for welfare studies
Education and Research Minister Christina Egelund aims to revamp professional education programs, seeking a quality improvement, especially for welfare education programs like pedagogy, primary education, social counseling, and nursing. Admissions to these four fields have declined by four percent this year, a trend Egelund warns could lead to understaffed welfare institutions. The planned reform focuses on strengthening the link between theory and practice, enhancing students’ understanding of the coherence in their education. Details of the reform are not yet disclosed, but may include more instructional hours. The minister believes that higher education quality will attract more applicants and notes that political decisions like salary increases for certain roles and capping university admissions, also impact recruitment in the welfare sector.
